26 Homeless Deaths In Temporary Homes In Barking And Dagenham
The oldest homeless person who died in temporary housing was 98 years old and the youngest was 24.
A total of 26 homeless people died in temporary accommodation in Barking and Dagenham between 2014 and April 2020, new data can reveal.
Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request by media literacy charity The Student View show five people aged between 41 and 58 died before finding a permanent home last financial year.
The youngest person to die in temporary accommodation since April 2014 was a 24-year-old man in 2016/17. The oldest was a 98-year-old woman in 2014/15.
Councils are responsible for helping anyone who is at risk of becoming homeless within 56 days by finding temporary or permanent accommodation.
Barking and Dagenham Council has been approached for a comment but did not reply before publication.
