It can be hard to cope with the amount of pressure that homework can put on a young person.

This issue is important to me because children like myself have too much pressure upon their shoulders from academic requirements. They also want to compete with classmates which will make them work much harder than they should.

1. It causes stress for us

A major American survey found that more than 70% of students were frequently stressed over homework. Less than 1% of students thought that homework was not a stressor. Over 80% of students had physical symptoms including headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation and weight loss. This is a huge worry.

2. Homework takes away our holidays

Children can learn more from the ‘real world’ than doing homework. The holidays have their name for a reason and that is simply because it is a time of rest. We should not be stressing over homework and should be getting benefits from the world around us. This could really help us in the future.

3. It is rarely enjoyable

I think that it is safe to say that homework is not the most exciting thing in the world. However, I believe that homework could be made more fun and aid learning. This could be done by introducing creative tasks which are a great way of learning and are more enjoyable. This could make students more engaged in learning which means they will take interest and learn even more!

4. It encourages bad learning habits

While doing work at home, you can become very distracted when not under the supervision of a teacher. For example, you could be listening to music while doing your homework or watching TV. This is not a good habit to get into as we cannot do this during exams when we need to write lots of information in a limited time.
