The Royal family are internationally known and loved, yet many people don’t know their history.
Who are they?
The Royal Family are formally known as The House of Windsor. This happened in 1917 when King George V changed the name from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Windsor. He is said to have done that because of the anti-German feeling during the war. This allowed them to go from strength to strength, as the public saw them as strong figures.
Do they have power?
The Queen has power, although she usually acts on the advice of the government. The Royal family also have major power and influence. This is shown through all the visits they do to hospitals, charities, schools and most importantly what they do for the community. Unusually, they have influence on fashion too. With Princess Diana had a huge impact in the fashion community, as have Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle since they have joined the family.
Do they relate to us?
The Royal Family are seen as very popular and to a certain extent even celebrities. They live in huge palaces and they get to grow up without the daily struggles of regular people.
