What are horoscopes?

A horoscope is a prediction of a person’s future based on what their star sign is. Your star sign depends on the day and month you were born on.  So, for example, if you were born between September 23rd and October 22nd your star sign is Libra. Therefore, your horoscope is based on being a Libra.

You can find out what your star sign is here.

How do horoscopes work?

Astrology is all about the positions of stars on the day you were born. In a way, horoscopes and astrology work together. The stars are believed to have an effect on how a person behaves in life. This can also influence their mood, personality and the environment they flourish in. All this is based on your star sign.

Why do people believe in horoscopes?

Some people believe that knowing their horoscope will help them find out information about things that could happen. They could, therefore, try to change or prevent it because they knew it was going to happen from their horoscopes. Many people are interested in horoscopes because sometimes it turns out that the horoscope was indeed correct.

When did the idea of horoscopes and the zodiac come around?

Babylonians, from ancient Greece, were the first people to apply the idea of myths to constellations and to explain the details of the 12 signs of the zodiac.

Years later, Egyptians followed on by improving and developing the ideas of the Babylonians. However, it was the Greeks who made it what it is today.
