Around 900 cases of shoplifting in JD Sports were reported in London between March 2015 and February 2020.

According to a Freedom of Information request filed by media literacy charity The Student View, 895 offences of shoplifting were logged by the Metropolitan Police Service in five years, 614 were for items less than £200.

There were 125 more incidents between March 2019 and February 2020 than over the same time period five years earlier.

Thefts of JD Sports made the national news as footage of masked and hooded men raiding their Tottenham Retail Park store circulated on social media.

MPS police officers investigated the incident, which happened at around 7:30pm on Halloween last year, but no charges were made.

During this time, there were 228,217 cases of theft from shops and stalls in the capital and shoplifting at JD Sports shops accounted for 0.4 percent of these crimes.
