Lambeth Sport Budget Up Five Times Since 2015

Lambeth Council spent five times as much on sport in 2019/20 than in 2015/16, with spending jumping from £50,000 to £259,000.

Lambeth Council spend five times as much on sport programmes last financial year than in four years earlier.

The budget for sport was £50,000 in 2015/16 but in 2019/20, the council spent £259,000 on leisure activities.

The 2019/20 budget is a 24% drop from the 2018/19 budget of £342,000.

The funds go towards leisure centres in the borough as well as the maintenance of turf pitches in the parks for football and cricket, all-weather pitches, hard courts for tennis and multi-use game areas and leisure centres.

Social enterprise Better manages leisure centres, such as Vauxhall and Clapham Leisure Centres and Brixton Recreation Centre, on behalf of the council.
