Help us to provide skills, access and learning opportunities to the cohort.

Fellowship Overview

We’re excited to launch our first annual New Creator Fellowship, funded for 30 young people to become the new creators of the future which will take place from 13th April – 13th October 2023

The ‘New Creator Fellowship’ aims to provide access, opportunity and skill, to open the door to the journalism industry, and inspire and enable young people (aged 16 – 23) to take their first steps in a career in journalism.

The programme has been created to develop critical media consumers and creators and remove barriers to entry for underrepresented young people in journalism and support a pipeline of diverse new talent into the industry.

Over the 26-week long fully funded programme, the cohort will undertake a Certificate in Foundation Journalism with the National Council for Training of Journalists (NCTJ) covering the fundamentals of telling a news story, gathering information, the ethics of journalism and storytelling through different audio, visual and written formats.

The New Creator Fellowship includes online class participation, self-study, written assessment, networking & curiosity and seeks eager aspiring new creators to maximise the opportunities of the programme to develop their skill sets, confidence and network.

The Student View and its network of partners and talent in the industry will deliver a host of experiences from a curriculum of expert guest speakers, mentors and panels. Covering cross-industry insights, experience and skill-building on topics including diversity in the newsroom, sensitive storytelling, music journalism, viral content creation and more. The Student View will be working closely with partner organisations to arrange exclusive placements for the cohort to apply for at the end of the programme.

Funding will help support...

Inspiring and Impactful Learning: Your funding will support an extensive program of inspiring speakers, guest workshops, and micro mentor moments, both in person and online. This comprehensive approach to learning will have a profound impact on the 30 young people participating in the program.

Empowering Young People: Your funding will provide a one-year subscription to key memberships and online tools, aiding in the continued learning and network development for the 30 young people. Additionally, travel expenses and a young person railcard will be covered, enabling the UK-wide fellows to attend in-person training and opportunities.

Celebrating Achievements: Your funding will help make a memorable Fellowship Certification and Awards ceremony possible, complete with food, refreshments, guest speaking, and stand-out prizes. This special evening of celebration will acknowledge the progress and accomplishments of the young people in the program.
