In 2016, the RSPCA received 1,153,744 phone calls reporting possible animal cruelty and investigated more than 149,000 complaints of animal abuse. 129,602 animals were rescued, but only 46,949 animals were rehomed.
1. Abuse is abuse:
No matter the species, whether human, tigers, or bears, if a living breathing creature is abused or hurt it still doesn’t make it right or okay.
2. Not enough punishments:
Even though there have been 1,153,744 phone calls, only 1,477 convictions were reported and filed.
3. Not enough RSPCA centres:
There are only 4 RSPCA wildlife centres in England, and only four animal hospitals, despite 149,000 complaints of animal cruelty in England and Wales last year.
4. Not enough people are aware of it:
Only 256,979 of the animals in 2016 in the UK were microchipped, neutered and treated, despite the millions more around the country needing help.
5. Not enough collection officers:
There are only 88 collection officers in England and Wales, but there were 129,602 rescues and collections in the UK in 2016. If we were to increase the number of officers, you could increase the number of rescues.
