What was the cause of the fire?

Although it wasn't the combustible cladding that caused the fire, without it, fewer people would have lost their lives. This is disgraceful. Why put cladding there to save £293,000, and risk many people losing their lives to fire? Firefighters did all they could to extinguish the fire.

How did the public react?

The members of the public were amazing as they opened their doors to strangers. Andy Murray donated his winnings from this year's AEGON Championships at Queen's Club to the families who have been affected. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has been very slow to rehouse everyone who was affected, which is very unsettling.

Could the government have done more?

Yes. If there was better cladding, the fire wouldn’t have spread that quickly.

Could the council have done more?

The council need to take that type of cladding of all affected blocks so that this disaster never happens again, but the death toll could still rise. The Grenfell Tower renovation works were inspected 16 times by Kensington and Chelsea council, but these checks failed to prevent the use of the cladding that helped kill at least 79 people.

Inspections were spread over almost two years during the £10m refurbishment project between 2014 and 2016, but these appear not to have spotted or cared that the building was being clad in a material effectively banned on tall buildings by the government.
