Not having clear skin can take a big toll on your self-esteem. But that doesn’t mean that you aren’t any less beautiful. Many teenagers suffer from acne and blemishes. This impacts their attitude to the world as they think that their appearance should always be perfect. Society today portrays models on Instagram looking amazing, but that doesn’t mean that they are perfect.
What causes acne?
Acne is caused by oils and dirt which build up in your pores over time, leading to acne and blackheads. Acne can be a big part of your appearance, so it is up to you to keep your skin clear. Many reasons, like not washing your face or not removing your makeup before bed, can worsen your acne.
What can you do to prevent acne?
One big factor for fixing acne is having a healthy lifestyle.
As you will have heard, water has many benefits for your health and your skin. Water helps flush out all the toxins in your body, and you need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Water not only hydrates your body, it keeps your skin plump and dewy, while also preventing chapped lips.
Many people don’t work out which reduces their blood flow. Little did you know, while working out causes you to become dehydrated, it also allows your body to rejuvenate and wake up. Try to work out for at least 2 hours a week.
Your diet has a big impact on your skin. As you know, 'you are what you eat'. Greasy foods build up in your body which causes your skin to release many oils, one of the main things that cause acne.
What routine should you follow?
All over social media, you see models and Youtubers upload their daily/nightly routines, which often include many expensive products. But little did you know, you can get clear skin with cheap simple products.
Every day you should drink many bottles of water.
Wash your face at least twice a day (morning and night).
Use a cleanser to remove the oils on the surface of your skin.
Exfoliate with a simple scrub at least twice a week (a simple scrub is using brown sugar and olive oil).
Lastly, always moisturise!
Here are some optional things you can do too:
You can use toner on your face to even out your skin and reduces the oil build up on your T- zone. A homemade toner can be made using rosewater in a spray bottle and spritz it on your face. Another homemade toner can be made by getting a ratio of 1:2 parts of apple cider vinegar to water.
Another way to treat yourself weekly is by making your own face masks. You can make a simple face mask by using honey, yoghurt, lemon, and turmeric. Leave this on for 10-15 minutes, and wash it off with lukewarm water and pat your face dry. Lastly, moisturise.
How to appreciate your skin?
Just remember no matter what happens, you are unique. Acne is one of the stages you go through in life and you can overcome the insecurity. Be proud of your appearance and wear your skin with pride.
