I know that for us 14-16-year-olds this topic doesn't grab our attention like it should. Mental health is important and I will show you why.
Do we check our minds how we check our bodies?
Everyone at least once a day checks themselves in the mirror, but what about our mental health? We have many issues that take part in our lives as teenagers. We have a lot of pressure from our GCSE exams, body image, to always be looking like our friends, or those that are in magazines. We need to always remember to be unique and have our individuality.
What is mental health?
Mental health is also important for all ages. Mental health is not about being happy all the time. It is more than that, despite the majority of people believing that mental health means being happy all the time. That is impossible, as we are humans, and everyone has something to worry about. Mental health is about being in control of yourself, and coping with your feelings, thoughts, and actions.
If I have a mental health problem what should I do?
If you are having a mental health problem, believe me, you are not alone. One in four of us will have problems with our mental health at some time in our life. If you find yourself with a mental health problem, talk to someone, take a break, do things you like to do, take a breath, and the most importantly, remember you have people here for you.
Who can help me?
We have many ways to get some help if you are not feeling comfortable. Talk to your doctor, start talking to a close friend or your parents, but talk! It is really important to share what is happening. Sometimes when you are feeling upset, try and share it. You will see this is a good way to get some help. In many hospitals, there are people who are professionals and can help us.
