As a traveller, I’ve now known that if people prefer to stay at home and play video games in their free time rather than travel the world, that’s completely normal. It’s their life – they can live it how they like. For the people who don’t like travelling, it can be hard to understand why us travellers like living out of a suitcase so much. Here are the top 3 reasons why we travel:
1. To get outside our comfort zone
When I was in year 6, I went to France for three days to study about the culture. When I arrived, I spoke a little French (since I hardly learnt any at school), but no-one spoke English. But it was the best three days of my life. Not giving up and overcoming my obstacles showed me the world wasn’t as scary as I thought it was. Every now and then, you hear people say you need to step out of your comfort zone, right? You need to stretch yourself, they say. It’ll be good for you. It will help you understand your surroundings and what affects you at home and abroad!
2. Travel opens our eyes
If you are willing to do it, you will be a better person by travelling. “Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Mary Ritter Beard. Travel opens our eyes, and in return gives everything to you.
3. Travel helps you learn new languages.
When you travel you learn new things, especially new languages. Also when you learn new languages, when you have travelled to another country, you will feel closer to the culture. You will feel like you are a citizen of that nation.
