Social media has grown and developed so much over the last few years. It impacts our daily lives in both positive and negative ways, but many of us do not realise just how much. Read on to find out more.

1. It makes us anti-social

The idea of social media is to make us more socialised, yet it is the reason why so many of us are so antisocial today. If we were to sit inside a room with a group of people, we would go on our phones and go onto a social media platform rather than physically socialise with the people around us. Social media engages us so much that sometimes we forget, and don’t care, about the world around us.

2. It is addictive

For most of us, the first thing we do when we wake up is pick up our phones and go on a social media application. It is also the last thing we do before we go to bed. Checking social media before we sleep at night and wake up in the morning is so embedded inside of us that when we don’t, we feel bothered.

3. Technology is not the problem, social media is

Some people believe that technology is the problem, rather than social media. But if we were all given devices that we could not install any social media apps onto, many of us would find the device to be useless. This shows that it is only the use of social media that drives us towards technology, and that technology is not the main problem. Not just that, but technology is advancing only because of its increase in use, which is partly because of social media.

4. Social media consumes most of our time

Everywhere we go, social media is somewhat connected to what we are doing. We miss out on activities and events because a lot of us would rather stay on our devices, or more specifically on social media. Even though we can’t always go on social media in school or our workplaces, once those working hours are over one of the first things that most of us do is to go on our social media platforms.
