Fortnite has changed a great deal since its first release in 2017.

Let’s run down the most significant advancements made.

1. PS4 opens up cross-compatibility

Cross-compatibility on PS4 began exclusively with Fortnite. On 26th September 2018, PS4 finally ditched the idea that PS4 could not play with Xbox and Nintendo players. A rule that had previously been taken badly by both PS4 and Xbox/Nintendo players, SONY reconsidered their decision and began allowing cross-compatibility. Fortnite became the first game to get this feature.

2. Moisty Mire’s removal

Moisty Mire, a location in the game, was removed at the start of season 5. It was replaced by Paradise Palms, which at first seemed much better. Paradise had more chest spawns due to more buildings, and more space which was able to be used. This meant more loot. In comparison, Moisty had fewer chest spawns and more trees. This did have benefits because you could get a whole load of materials from the larger amount of trees. After some time players mourned the removal of Moisty Mire, even though when it was a part of the game, players rarely landed there.

3. Thanos game mode

In May 2018, Epic Games and Marvel teamed up to make a new game mode in Fortnite Battle Royale season 4. This allowed players to become the character Thanos, which was an enjoyable and easy way to get some solo wins.

4. The return of Skull Trooper

Skull Trooper, a Halloween exclusive skin released in Fortnite Battle Royale (season 1), returned on the 11th October 2018, nearly a year after its first release. People who hadn’t owned the skin, therefore, had another chance to buy it. As well as Skull Trooper re-releasing, Epic Games added a new edition. Skull Trooper and the new Skull Ranger becoming neon, which reverted the colour scheme from white and black to black and neon green.
