Over 2,000 Young People Accused Of Shoplifting In Westminster

More than 2,000 young people under 25 were accused of theft from shops between 2015 and 2019.

More than 2,000 people under 25 years old were charged with shoplifting by Police in Westminster over the past 5 years, new data can reveal.

A total of 2,253 young people had charges of shoplifting proceeded against them by the Metropolitan Police Service between 2015 and 2019, according to a Freedom of Information request filed by media charity The Student View.

Of those accused, 852 were aged between 10 and 17 years old and 1,401 were aged between 18 and 24.

The amount of proceedings in 2019 for these crimes was 247, which is almost half of the 496 accusations in 2015, however the most were recorded in 2016.
