Southwark Arts Funding Cut £35,000 In 5 Years As Firework Display Fund Stays Steady
Theatre and arts budgets have been cut, while the budget for an annual firework display has remained consistent.

Funding for arts venues and initiatives in Southwark has fallen by over £35,000 over the last five years.
In 2015, nine individual arts venues received funding surpassing £187,000. However, since 2016, only six venues have received funding, totalling £152,000.
The media literacy charity The Student View made the findings following a Freedom of Information request to Southwark Council.
Dulwich Events have seen a budget cut of £10,000, from £44,000 to £34,000, over the same time period.
Southwark Festivals fund was cut by £20,000, from £75,000 to £55,000 annually.
The budget for the annual firework display, however, has stayed at £65,000 a year.
Southwark Council declined the opportunity to respond.
