Attention all young and fearless content creators, listen up! We are excited to share that we’ve just launched the New Creator Fellowship, a six-month programme designed to support all you aspiring media and storytelling geniuses out there.
Are you ready to make your mark on the world? Let’s dive into the details!
What is this fellowship all about?
Essentially, it’s a chance for anyone aged 16-23 who is interested in media and storytelling to flex their creative muscles and explore unique perspectives and interests through the power of journalism. Fellows will have the opportunity to explore different industries, learn new skills and techniques that lay the foundations for an exciting career.
You’ll also have access to industry professionals who will help you refine your storytelling skills and teach you all the tips and tricks of the trade. In other words, you’ll be rubbing shoulders with some seriously big names.
But wait, there’s more! As part of the program, you’ll get to attend workshops and training sessions that cover everything from media literacy 101 and sensitive storytelling to Making it: National Radio with Remi Burgz . You’ll also become part of a community of like-minded creators who are all working towards the same goal – making a positive impact on the world. Think of it as your very own club of awesomeness.

Who is the programme for?
Our fellowship is open to anyone between the ages of 16 and 23 who is interested in media and storytelling, regardless of their background or experience level. Whether you’re a seasoned blogger, a budding filmmaker, or just someone with a passion for sharing stories, you’re encouraged to apply!
This programme is especially committed to providing individualised support to the cohort. If you identify as someone who is not currently represented in the media or industry, we want to hear from you!
Is the aim of the programme to help remove barriers to entry for underrepresented young people in the journalism industry?
Absolutely! The New Creator Fellowship aims to tackle the stats provided in the 2022 Diversity in Journalism report issued by the NCTJ, showing that journalists in the UK are more likely to be from white ethnic groups, have a degree level qualification and have a parent who has worked or works in higher-level occupation.
Our fellowship aims to tackle this and support a of 30 diverse new talent in year one into industry by:
- Prioritising applicants from the underrepresented groups in industry
- Providing a fully funded programme including travel costs for in person sessions
- Delivery of the NCTJ’s Certificate in Foundation Journalism course, recognised by media outlets and organisations, accessed virtually
- Programming speakers, guest sessions, workshops and work placements to broaden perspectives, share knowledge and spark curiosity
- Supporting young people to build skills, foster new networks and instil confidence in abilities to pursue a career in journalism
- Providing learning experiences and networking opportunities virtually as well as in person
What is expected from me as a fellow?
Throughout the course of the 26-week programme, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in workshops and training sessions led by industry professionals.
Each week you will cover topics like storytelling, recording and gathering information, how to use audio, learn about the ethics and legal aspects of the industry as well as the power of video .
You’ll also be part of a community of like-minded young people who are all working to create meaningful content and make a difference in the world by trying to push the boundaries and increase inclusivity and diversity in the industry.
How do I apply?
To apply for the New Creator Fellowship, you’ll need to fill out our application form, which includes some basic information about yourself and your understanding of the programme.
Applications officially open for our potential fellows on March 1st 2023 at noon where you’ll have a two week period to fill out our application form. The purpose of this part of the application process is to learn a bit more about what makes you tick? Or gives you energy and excitement that you can channel into your creative work?
The application deadline for applications is March 15, so make sure to get your application in on time!
From there, we then go on to elect 30 Fellows to participate in the programme – successful applicants will be notified on April 6.
